A New Passion

When I first chose the beats I would write for The Daily Universe (bookstore, police, ROTC), I never realized I would be inadvertently choosing something I felt so passionately about. No, it's not the bookstore or even the police beat (although that one's pretty sweet, too), but the military.

Growing up, I learned to appreciate and love my country, but I never really knew anything about the life of those in the military until I came to college. My roommate, TyRee's dad is a doctor in the Air Force. By the way, he's one of my heroes-he graduated valedictorian in his class at medical school in addition to being the foosball champion there, and TyRee has told me a few of his amazing doctor stories. After living with TyRee for 2 years, I've started to become familiar with a little bit of the lingo. But, now that I'm writing stories for the ROTC in the paper, I've grown to appreciate the men and women in our armed forces so much more-and I've only been doing it for 2 weeks. I've only just begun to dig into the workings of the ROTC and how cadets are trained to become leaders in our nation's military. It's hard work! And these guys here at BYU are some of the best. I love talking with them and learning more about what they do and what their goals are. I'm so glad we have people like them protecting us and our country. They're total heroes!

You know that Scott did ROTC. Don't worry, his mission will only be 2 short years, hint, hint.

I agree. They work so hard for our peace and freedom. So when are we gonna see these articles? Does the Daily Universe have an internet site?
