Justin's Return to the States

Since February, I have been following the blog of Justin Jones for my research with the Saints at War project. Justin Jones is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and just completed a 423-day deployment to Afghanistan. I have really enjoyed reading his posts and it's been a great experience for me. His last post was on Wednesday and I almost started crying when I read it and saw the pictures of his reunion with his family. I'm so glad he made it home safe. It's interesting that I've been reading about his life even though he has no idea who I am, but I have a feeling I'll get to meet him one day.

I'm so glad I get to be a part of this project. It's come to be one of the things I am most passionate about. I love my work.

Called to Serve?

As I watch so many of my girl friends decide to serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and become very excited about it, I sometimes wonder why I don't feel the need to go on one. At the moment I don't really have any other absolutely pressing things I need to do (well ok, now that I've accepted an internship for the fall I do, but after that I don't) and I'd really love to be a missionary.

I think I've been blessed with my calling this summer as a member of the Missionary and Fellowship Council. While there aren't too many people in Provo to preach the gospel to, I feel like it's given me a taste of what it's like to be a missionary and to do the Lord's work. But lately I've been blessed with so many other opportunities that for some reason feel to me like they should be prioritized above a mission. I hope I can do them justice. I feel blessed to know that, if not right away, one of these days I'll be blessed to wear a black missionary nametag.

That Thing You Do

This week was a fabulous one! Here are some good things that happened...

-I got a new roommate. Now I actually share a room again. Her name is Kelsey. My third roommate with that name.

-I had three phone interviews for internships. (This is a good and a not-so-good thing...I hate interviews!)

-I was offered an internship! I haven't accepted it yet because I wanted to think about it and make sure it's what I felt good about. But I plan on calling and accepting it tomorrow because who am I kidding...it's perfect for me!

-I had ice cream with my friend, Barb, who I haven't seen in awhile. We talked about a good news blog we want to start. More about that in future posts...

-I got to see Carly twice. She drove up here with the kids on Wednesday so she stopped by the apartment. Then Friday I drove with my friend, Kadi, to see her in Sandy.

-The Fourth of July! It's right up there with Christmas as one of my favorite holidays. My holiday consisted of volunteering at the Freedom Run, going to the street fair on Center Street, ice blocking with the roomies, making a delicious apple pie, a picnic at DT fields with friends, dancing outside the stadium to SheDaisy and The Jonas Brothers live, and laying on a blanket almost directly under the best fireworks show ever.

-I used my webcam for the first time to video chat with my French roommate who is currently doing an internship in Geneva, Switzerland. It was wonderful to see her and hear her voice.

-I realized some things in my life that all seem to be falling into place as I was promised they would.
