This Is It...

We're down to the last couple weeks of classes...and then finals...and then a short break...and then back to school!

This is usually the hardest part because you just have to keep pushing even though you don't really feel like it. By this time of the semester, I really feel like I deserve a break. But even if I've been trying as hard as I can all semester, I can't get my good grades unless I endure to the end. I learned that lesson awhile ago.

Almost there!

If you go into media relations, be prepared...

Today we had a mock press conference in one of my public relations classes. By the time it was my group's turn to go, the man who was playing the "hostile mayor" was really getting into his part. In fact, at the very end of our turn, he walked down the aisle and threw his shoe at Susan! Ok, he actually threw it next to her, but it was a humorous way for us to end our few minutes of stress.

It was a little bit like this, but without all the hard feelings:

Chocolate for Bananas?

This morning I walked into the kitchen to get breakfast and my roommate from Taiwan was sitting at the table eating toast. I noticed two fun-size Twix bars next to her plate and I laughed and then asked her if she was eating them for breakfast. In all seriousness she said yes, because she was out of bananas: "Something had to replace the banana and so I thought of chocolate."

Thank goodness for happy little moments like this; without them I'm not sure I could make it through the day sometimes.

Sometimes I'm Gonna Have to Lose

Lately I've been having trouble thinking of words to express myself. I think mostly in pictures, feelings, song lyrics, and snippets of conversations I keep re-playing in my head. Here is one of the songs I keep thinking of because it seems to be so applicable. I like the music video, too. Yes, I know it's Miley, but it's a good song! It's the one she sang at a concert honoring military families, which is probably another reason I like it...

I Spy The Temple and Trafalga

My good friend, Brent, moved into town this week so we got to hang out a little bit. Friday we went to see I Spy exhibit at the Museum of Art on campus. There were regular pictures, optical illusions, and pictures that actually listed objects for you to find. I really liked it because it was interactive and made me remember being a kid.

Then we went to the Draper temple open house with a bunch of other people in the area. Whenever a new temple is built, anyone is allowed to go on a tour of the whole thing before it is dedicated. It was so beautiful, and such a neat experience!

Last night I went with my friend, Curtis, to Trafalga, a family fun center in Orem. We mini-golfed inside, ate Dippin Dots...the ice cream of the future. Then we played some of the arcade games. We got a bunch of tickets and some other people gave us theirs before they left, so we got some pretty sweet prizes.

For the Love of Lent

For those of you who don't know, Lent started on Wednesday.

You're probably wondering why that matters to me since I'm Mormon, but for the past few years I've always given up something for Lent because I like the challenge. Usually I give up candy or something, but that's not much of a challenge anymore.

After some long, hard thinking, TyRee and I decided to sacrifice "negative attitudes." That probably sounds really cheesy, but we wanted to give up something that would actually make us better people...and we couldn't think of any vices that we're not already working on.

At first, we were going to not complain, but then I realized that there is such a thing as "productive complaining," sort of like constructive criticism.

It's been interesting these last couple of days because I never would have thought of either of us as pessimistic, but we've both been noticing that we are more negative than we think we are! This has helped us to have better self-discipline, and it's been fun/funny to try and see the bright side of things we usually complain about. It came in handy the other day when I came home to a very disgusting kitchen and I felt like yelling at somebody. But I didn't.
